NFT REVIEW MARKET
Following the ticketing fiasco that took place at the Stade de France during the Champions League Final, Italian top flight side Società Sportiva Lazio (a.k.a Lazio) has taken it upon itself to add blockchain technology to its ticketing system. To do so, the club has partnered with crypto exchange Binance, who will provide the club with an NFT ticketing solution for all of its home matches which take place at Rome’s Stadio Olympico.
The solution, which for now, is only scheduled for the upcoming 2022/23 season, has been set up with the goal of eradicating any issues involving fake tickets, scalping, and general disorder when fans are entering the ground. The NFTs will be free to claim, and in addition to serving as a standard ticket, they will also come with discounts at the club’s store, token giveaways, and other Lazio experiences.
The endeavor comes after the digital-come-physical ticketing solution at May’s Champions League Final between Liverpool and Real Madrid caused complete carnage when fans entered the ground. Due to the solution’s lack of authenticity prowess, many fake tickets were sold, which ultimately led to fans becoming victims of police brutality (something which was proven in court), as well as the match being delayed by half an hour.
With this in mind, and although Lazio is a popular club that possesses a relatively high demand for tickets, more tangible benefits with respect to the introduction of NFT tickets will most likely be felt when the solution is added to major footballing events, such as during the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
